Heartlands is an award-winning entertainment venue, in the mining heart of Cornwall. A derelict mining landscape and its former tin-mining buildings have been transformed into this family friendly visitor attraction, that embodies Cornish culture.

Set amongst 19-acres it is an all-weather eclectic entertainment venue with something for everyone to enjoy. There is plenty on offer for visitors, it is a place where you can learn, explore, play and relax.

Amongst the attractions are a mining museum with state of the art exhibitions, diaspora botanical gardens, an enormous adventure playground; best of all they are free to enjoy.

At centre stage is the iconic Grade II listed Robinson’s Shaft mine complex. It has been carefully restored to become an exhibition centre; focusing on the past, present and future of Cornwall’s mining history, landscape and cultural heritage.

Visitors can undertake a tour of the Robinson Engine House; tours are available daily, but they must be booked in advance. There is some fascinating information about the mine on information boards.

Within is an innovation and interpretation centre, home to a permanent display of colourful, interactive learning resources and historic artefacts.

There are five unique gardens and parkland, along with links to cycling routes to allow you to discover the surrounding countryside. It is an ideal spot to explore the heart of Cornwall.

Dotted about the complex are though-provoking art installations, along with climb on sculptures.

The small artisan shops, and arts and craft studios are worth a visit, you may find a nice souvenir to take home.

The funky Red River café is in the old carpenter’s Workshop. It is atmospheric, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Visitors get to sample all that is great about Cornish food and drink. Innovative food producers and suppliers provide fresh, seasonal, and local produce that feature on the creative menu. Dining options include both indoor and outdoor seating.

Heartlands is open all year round and features seasonal events, so keep an eye out for these. In addition, there are farmers markets, cultural festivals, dance shows and music events held throughout the year. You will always come across something different to see and do.

This heritage centre is a charity and all monies made are reinvested back into the trust.
