Cornwall is known for its many sub-tropical gardens but, there is another lesser known and vastly different garden here in Cornwall. It is equally as beautiful as the other gardens but somewhat unique. The Japanese Garden is in St Mawgan on the outskirts of Newquay.

The entire gardens are modelled and created using an authentic Japanese design. They have been established as a meditative garden and walking around it is easy to clear your mind of everyday stresses.
Traditionally Japanese Gardens utilize a combination of man made and natural elements. The well laid out gardens are artistically styled and shaped, and feature Japanese characteristics like waterfalls, koi carp, bamboo, tea houses, islands, stone lanterns, bridges, statues, wind chimes, along with areas designed for meditation. You are above all transported to another world that is far away from traditional Cornwall. Each object and its specific placement are important in the harmonious role it fulfils in the gardens.
Viewing points strategically placed around the gardens offer specific views of the plants and ornaments, likewise the twists and turns in the pathways cause you to pause and enjoy your splendid surroundings. With plenty of seating areas where you can sit and contemplate amongst the picturesque surroundings.
The Japanese Gardens are in addition home to a specialist bonsai nursery, where you can purchase one of these delightful miniature trees for your own home. They have a variety of bonsais in different species and sizes. The gift shop also stocks acers, succulents, garden ornaments, pots, and oriental themed goods.
The gardens are open from early March through to the end of October, 7 days a week, from 10.00am to 6.00pm.
