Visiting a Theme Park trip is always a favourite day out for families, friends and couples, as they offer something for everyone and guarantee a fun day out. With rides, shows, play areas and craft activities, as well as lots more on offer you are spoiled for choice and certainly will not be bored or stuck for things to see and do. The fun, thrills and spills never end at a theme park.
They are the perfect choice regardless of the weather with indoor and outdoor activities on offer. It also offers a change from a day spent on one of our many incredible beaches.
The Milky Way Adventure Park is no exception: a family run attraction that evolved from its inception as a farm attraction in 1984 to a firm family favourite and now winner of Trip Advisor’s highest accolade for the past 7 years. Located in rural and beautiful North Devon, it is just 5 miles from the North Cornwall border, so easily accessible. There’s acres of indoor and outdoor fun for the whole family, all in a safe environment where children can let off steam and enjoy all the attractions on offer.
The Milky Way Adventure Park is a family friendly amusement park offering big and little thrills, with attractions such as Cosmic Typhoon, Gravity Rider, Cosmic Caterpillar, Dodgems, The Milky Way Railway, Ninja Stars, Jumping Jupiter’s, Ziggy’s Blast Quest, Bouncing Balloon Room, Mini Golf, Birds of Prey, Maze and much, much more.
What is different here is that the Milky Way family encourage families to come together when visiting. You can also look forward to a warm and friendly welcome.
If you should get hungry, there are snacks, hot meals and tasty treats available in the Planet Play Cafe and the Star Light Restaurant.
We caught up with Jayne Jarrett at The Milky Way Adventure Park to see what it is like to be part of the incredible crew and work there.
Hello Jayne, can you introduce yourself in a few words?
"Hi! I’m Jayne – my official title at The Milky Way is ‘Manager of Make-believe and Mischief’!""
Firstly I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us at Cornwall Cottages.
"You’re very welcome – I’m always busy doing allsorts around the park but it’s always lovely to stop to talk to someone!"
How many rides and attractions are there at The Milky Way Adventure Park?
"Lots, and we’ve added lots more in recent years. At the moment we have 20 rides, live shows and attractions and virtually everything is included in the one entrance fee, so visitors can go on as many times as they like. That’s something that many of our visitors love."
What is the best way to get best value entrance tickets? Should visitors book in advance?
"Yes, for the past couple of years we’ve asked everyone to book ahead on our website. Once you’re here you can pick up a VIP ticket for reduced price entry for your next visit – holiday makers often come to us twice during their stay."
It must get very busy at times? Is there a best day/time to visit?
"During peak times weekends are often quieter, but places fill up fast so it’s always better to book before you come on holiday."
What kind of facilities do you have available for customers with special needs?
"We do genuinely strive to offer a day out that is welcoming and enjoyable for all, regardless of ability. In general, the site itself is very wheelchair friendly, being all on one level and we also provide ample seating throughout the park. A lot of our staff have received disability awareness training and are very happy to help our visitors in any way they can. When it comes to special dietary needs we offer varied menus and keep careful records of all our ingredients - so if visitors would like to check the contents of any of the items on our menus they just need to ask a member of staff."
Is there a place where visitors can store their personal items while they are enjoying the park?
"Yes, we have lockers that can be rented for a small fee."
Can tweens and teenagers navigate theme parks on their own, or is there a minimum admission age for unescorted children?
"We do ask that anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult."
What do visitors do if they get separated from their child in a theme park?
"We have a robust lost child policy in place. In the first instance they would need to approach one of our easily identifiable staff who will help."
What fun events take place during the year at The Milky Way Adventure Park?
"We always plan to have special things going on at Easter, Halloween and Christmas – we really go to town, and our visitors often come year after year!"
Have you anything new attractions coming to the park next year?
"We’ve added 5 new attractions in the past 5 years! This year we’re working on attracting more wild flowers and wildlife to our mini train track, which I’m looking forward to!"
What are the best aspects of working with the amazing team at the Milky Way Adventure Park?
"Every day is different, and they genuinely are a fantastic bunch of people. Our reviews often comment on how genuinely lovely, helpful and welcoming our staff are – and it’s true! They’re great colleagues too!
What are the biggest challenges of working in an amusement park?
"See above – every day is different and all our best plans can suddenly be up in the air for unforeseen reasons! Covid did hit us very hard for many reasons but we got through it and we’re still here having fun!"
Do you visit other theme parks in your spare time?
"There ARE no other theme parks as far as I’m concerned!!!
What’s your favourite theme park in the world? Why do you like it?
"The Milky Way of course!!!"
You can spend a whole day here at the park and are sure to have a blast here at The Milky Way Adventure Park, and leave with an abundance of happy memories.
